This post is about the second half of our return to St. Joseph, Missouri via Roswell, New Mexico and Texas, and Kansas.
After visiting the largest pistachio in the world, we headed off to the biggest alien city in the world, Roswell. And it did not disappoint. Upon our arrival, this is the first place we saw.
We checked into our hotel and were off to the local McDonalds for a cup of coffee and to meet some more aliens.
From the McDonalds, we found a statue dedicated to John Chisum, who founded the Chisum Trail that helped wagon trains and cattle drives go from southern Texas to Kansas, right through Roswell. This was the first of only two non-alien displays we saw on our visit.
Next, we found a display for the “Roswell Rocket.” I was excited to see this until we actually saw it.
Yeah, it was a child’s play toy found in numerous parks around the United States. On the way back to our hotel, we found the second non-alien display.
Cindy had to have her coffee first thing the next day, so we went to Degenerate Coffee.
I loved the name and Cindy loved the coffee. It was so good, it earned a link. If you are hunting aliens and need coffee, this is your place. Use the link at the end of this post to get some for yourself. Our next stop was a tour of the “Spacewalk Black Light Adventure.” Amazing is all I can say.
Super fun place you should consider visiting when in Roswell. We had lunch at the “Pecos Flavors Winery and Bistro.”
I had an amazing Bacon Cheeseburger and Cindy had a Chef’s Salad.
This was a top-notch restaurant, and it definitely earned a link. Use it to get a great meal while exploring the aliens. And there are aliens everywhere in Roswell. They are on the lamp posts and in all sorts of displays.
Our next stop was the “UFO Museum.” It was also pretty amazing.
There is so much to see and do in Roswell, you need several days to see and do it all. We only had a day and a half so we saw as much as we could. Roswell is a must visit, so use the link at the end of the post to plan your own visit. Here I am on our way out of Roswell.
From Roswell, we drove to Amarillo, Texas. Now if you have to ask what is in Amarillo Texas, you have not been following this blog for very long and don’t know me very well. Here is where we stopped.
That’s right, The Big Texan, home of the 72-ounce steak challenge. If you don’t remember what that is, I’ll remind you.
If you can eat a 72-ounce steak (that’s 4 1/2 pounds of meat, enough for a family of four), a baked potato, a dinner salad, three breaded fried shrimp, and a dinner roll, in an hour, your meal is free. In all seriousness, eating everything above minus the 4 1/2 pounds of meat is enough for a really filling dinner. I can’t imagine how anyone does it. Yet many have.
The current record holder is a 125lb woman who finished the challenge in four minutes and 18 seconds. I can’t even fathom that. Here is the challenge area.
Here is my meal on this stop. I did the 8-ounce steak challenge, with fried okra and a small dinner salad. I ate it in less than an hour.
After a delicious dinner, we drove to Liberal, Kansas, where we spent the night. The next day we finished our drive to St. Joseph, Missouri.
