This was our second trip in the new trailer. It was a three night, four day trip to Campland on the Bay with our friend Sylvia. And a special surprise stowaway. This was our first stay at this campground. It was a nice place, very clean and well kept. It is the perfect place for families.
Day 1
This was our travel day to San Diego. Luckily, it was uneventful. We got checked in and settled in for the night.
This was also the first trip where I got to use my fancy BBQ table. It folds up for easy storage, then unfolds to hold the BBQ and has 4 extra shelves. In the picture below I only used the shelves on the left side of the table and kept the right side shelves down so it took up less room. I love it.
Day 2
We started the day with a walk around the campground and along the beach.
We spent the rest of the day relaxing until dinner. Here I am cooking our dinner of vegetable kabobs and shrimp on my new table. Look at this delicious food.
Day 3
After another walk around the campground, we headed off to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego.
It was not very crowded, I’m sure due to Covid. But we were able to eat inside a restaurant, a rare treat these days. Before we left, they started to block off the streets and restaurants were setting up tables in the street in front of their places. This was something new they were doing every Friday thru Sunday.
Sounds like a great idea. Maybe other places should be trying this as well.
After the Gaslamp Quarter, we headed over to Coronado Island to the Hotel Del Coronado. Sylvia had not been to either the island or the hotel so we had to show her.
Unfortunately, the hotel was closed because of Covid. It was schedule to open the next day, so we barely missed being able to go inside.
This was the first time the hotel had been closed in 132 years, or since 1888! That means World Wars I and II did not force a closure, but this Covid nonsense did. Wow.
While they were closed, they did a lot of maintenance. Here are a few workers on the steep cone shaped roof.
We walked along the beach area behind the hotel. There was a very detailed sand castle announcing the hotel’s reopening.
Even though it was cool out with some overcast, people were still hanging out on the beach.
We saw a cruise ship anchored out in the harbor. Apparently the cruise ships are anchored at several different harbors around the world waiting to be put back in use. Here is a link to an interesting article on the subject over on Bloomberg.com.
We returned to our campground, had dinner and played a few games, and retired for the evening.
Day 4
This was our pack up and head home day. We stopped at Clearman’s Northwoods for lunch because Sylvia had never eaten there. As usual, the food was very good. We arrived home without incident, always a good thing.
The Special Surprise Stowaway
So who was the special surprise stowaway on this trip? Have a look.
That’s right, the socially responsible Dime! Here it is hanging with the truck and trailer.
The Dime checked out my new BBQ table and approved.
Here it is having some coffee, snacks and game time.
Just chilling and having some wine with Cindy and Sylvia.
And finally, checking out the Hotel Del Coronado and beach.
The Dime will be doing some more travelling with us and has agreed to author a few posts in the near future. Something to look forward to.
