Sorry for the delay in adding posts. Time really got away from me.
Now I know what you are thinking, “Didn’t you guys see Duran Duran in the beginning of the year in Las Vegas?” Yes, yes, we did. But we had a chance to see them again more locally, and what the heck, we made a very short trip of it.
We drove to Rancho Mirage on a Wednesday, got checked into our room, and went to Casino Morongo for their all you can eat seafood buffet. It was pretty darn good at a reasonable price. I can recommend the Casino Morongo buffet for pretty much any meal, just make sure you get the players club card so you can get a discount.
On Thursday it was hot (in the low 90’s) with very high humidity. Plus, it looked like it was going to rain. So we looked for an indoor activity and decided to check out the Palm Springs Art Museum. It is a three level art museum with different types of art on each level.
This was one of my favorites. A stack of plates that seemed to spin when you walked around them. This stack was about ten feet tall.
This was another favorite. It looked like it was made of wood, but it was really cement. I got caught touching it and had a docent follow me around for quite some time after that.
The ever popular “Box with a light and mirrors.”
The even more popular but less known “Cindy in a pink space.”
There was a Dale Chihuly piece.
And whatever this was in an outside exhibit. I called it “Cindy hiding behind a skinny bush,” but Cindy pointed out to me the art was the glass balls and red pointy things.
We made a very good choice visiting the art museum. Besides being a great time, it rained while we were trying to add culture to our lives.
We had lunch, picked up our tickets for the concert, and headed back to our room for a nap and to get ready for the show!
At the casino where the show was, I saw this sign near where we entered. I was happy to see a business finally take a stand against all of this comfort pet nonsense.
That was until I saw someone bring their medium sized dog INTO the concert. She was carrying the dog and it had ear muffs on. Ridiculous.
Prior to the show, we had dinner with our good friends Paula T. and Mike W., and Jill and Mike B. Jill and I were in the academy together, I have worked for Paula at several units, and Mike W and I have worked together once. We ate at The Steakhouse at the Agua Caliente Casino. It was an outstanding meal. I highly recommend The Steakhouse at Agua Caliente. And as a bonus, Paula tricked all of us and picked up the check. A very generous and appreciated gesture.
Cindy took a picture with a picture of the guys.
Here are a few songs from the concert. First, “The Reflex,” followed by “Wild Boys” and finishing with “Rio.” As usual, they put on a really good show.
The show concluded with a cascade of confetti.
After the show we met up with our dinner partners, said our goodnights, and we returned to our room. On Friday, we walked to a nearby pawn shop where Cindy scored with some inexpensive Alex and Ani bracelets. We love pawn shops, the Goodwill, and various thrift stores. You just never know what you will find. We drove home and ended out short, but enjoyable trip.
During the next week I will post our Paso Robles wine tasting trip with our good friends Todd and Edi W. After that will be several posts covering our recently finished tour of the fall foliage in the New England states. Stay tuned!
